Facts about Sattriya and Sankaradeva:
Sattriya includes Nritta (pure dance), Nritya (expressive dance) and Natya (dance drama) components. The dance form evolved and expanded as a distinctive style of dance later on.
Sankaradeva propagated the "ek sharan naama dharma" (chanting the name of one God devotedly). The dance form was practiced primarily by the Meitei Hindus (primarily Vaishnavas) in Assam and by the Vaishnava Manipuri population settled in the neighbouring States of Tripura and Assam.
Sankaradeva and his disciple Madhavadeva composed various forms of songs such as Borgeet, Ankiya Naat, Bhatima, Janma, Raasleela etc., which are based on classical Ragas and Talas of Assamese music.
