Idol workshop in India can be traced to the period of Pre Aryans. The Indus Valley people seemed to have a tradition of honoring their deities in image form with ritual worship. They also probably worshipped animals, mythical creatures, plants, kings and gods who resembled humans. In pre Aryan period most people practised the worshipping idols (pooja) of mother goddesses, Pahupati seal or animist spirits like that of wild boar, elephant, and cobra.
